Variable Speed Pumps: Big Savings Without Dirty Water
Pros 2026-08-22Pump power falls roughly with the cube of speed, so cutting speed in half can cut energy use to about one-eighth in theory. Real systems lose some of that, but the savings are still large.
Choose the lowest speed that still gives enough daily turnover, good skimming, and the minimum flow your heater, salt cell, and cleaner need. Add scheduled higher-speed periods for cleaning, features, and heating.
Confirm real flow with a gauge or flow meter, and check pressure after any change. Longer, slower filtration often leaves the water cleaner as well as cheaper to run.
